Woman wearing glasses and smiling

Hi, I’m Heather.

My goal is to help faculty and graduate students become effective teachers for a price that won’t break the bank.

My teaching career started over a decade ago at a small public, primarily undergraduate university that didn’t have a teaching and learning center. I was a bit ahead of my peers because I had completed some research in geoscience education for my dissertation, but I still had not really learned how to teach.

I was lucky to find resources through some professional societies I belonged to and spent the next decade attending as many professional development opportunities on teaching and learning as I could. Most of these were free webinars or short course workshops along with a handful of workshops that my institution could afford to pay for. I learned a ton, but it was so frustrating to have to spread that training out over such a long period of time. I wanted my students to have the benefit of good teaching now, not in 5 years.

I formed AcadeMe for faculty members and graduate students who want to elevate their teaching and better support their students learning, but don’t necessarily have access to large amounts of funding and want more flexible learning options. Learning how to be an effective teacher and support the learning of all of our students shouldn’t only be for those lucky enough to be at institutions with substantial professional development funding. Our students deserve better, we deserve better.

The AcadeMe Difference

If you’ve spent any time working as faculty in higher education, you know that time comes at a premium. There is always too much to do and too little time to do it.

That’s why, at AcadeMe, we built our training programs to fit your busy schedule.

Online

Our training courses are all entirely online. This allows you to choose when and where you want to learn. Whether it’s in between meetings, on the train commute, or while walking on the treadmill at the gym, AcadeMe has you covered.

Interactive

Research has shown that active learning is one of the most effective ways to learn. Our lessons all include ways for you to practice what you have learned and interact with your fellow learners.

Microlearning

In today’s fast-paced world, microlearning allows learning to happen in small chunks. No need to read tome after tome on teaching and learning, we do the reading and research for you, then present just the information you need to know. Each lesson in a course is designed to be completed in 15 minutes or less.
